E- Commerce evolution.

Beggining of the year and the FDN Group makes a review of the history of e-commerce and what brought us to today

The world of the internet is almost nothing like that of previous years. Within a decade the internet has entered the daily life of the average user, either through the desktop computer or through the mobile devices.

Now smartphones have transformed mobile phones, from a simple means of communication to a passage to the whole planet. Trade companies could not be missing in this communication game.

In 1979 Michael Aldrich invented the online marketplace to allow electronic processing of B2B or B2C transactions, later known as E-Commerce. E-commerce was initially recognized as facilitating e-commerce, using technologies such as Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and Electronic Money Transfer (EFT). From 1990 onwards, e-commerce additionally included the ERP system, data warehousing and data warehousing.

Nowadays, e-commerce includes everything from ordering digital content for direct online consumption to ordering conventional goods and services, but also services that facilitate other forms of e-commerce.

Data integrity and security are critical issues in e-commerce. With the increase of market passages, the data that companies are called to manage is increasing every minute of the day. In June 2019 alone, the number of people using the internet reached 4.536 million. It is estimated that from the beginning of 2020, the accumulated data volume will increase from 4.4 zettabytes to about 44 zettabytes or 44 trillion GB.

Thus, a strategic choice of a multidimensional and flexible ERP is one-way-road.
